Part of the great half back line of Duckworth, Roberts and Bell that helped United win the Championship in 1908 and 1911 and FA Cup in 1909. Born in South Africa, he made 306 appearances between 1903-13, scoring 10 goals, and was capped once by Scotland in 1912. Bell joined Blackburn Rovers in July 1913 and promptly won another League Championship medal. 1970: United beat FA Cup holders Manchester City 3-0 in the 4th Round at Old Trafford in front of 63,417. Brian Kidd 2 and Willie Morgan were the scorers. Team was: Stepney, Edwards, Burns, Crerand, Ure, Sadler, Morgan, Sartori, Charlton, Kidd, Aston. An incredible climax sees Bekcham's through ball taken on by Scholes and the Norwegian grabs a sensational winning goal. 88 min: GOAL - YORKE. Beckham's free kick is headed down by Cole and Yorke taps in from just a couple of yards. 84 min: Owen is booked for hauling down Neville. 80 min: Ronny Johnsen and Ole Solskjaer replace Henning Berg and Denis Irwin. 80 min: A ball is fed through to Keane who holds off the challenge of Jamie Carragher but fires a left-foot shot against the post and Liverpool survive again. 78 min: Yorke, Giggs and Cole set up Scholes but he blazes a 20-yard shot high and wide. 76 min: Giggs is booked for a late tackle on Heggem. 73 min: Yorke and Cole link up but Yorke drives the 20-yard shot well wide. 70 min: Injured Ince is substituted by Jason McAteer. 68 min: Beckham's low cross is slashed by Matteo but goes straight into the arms of James. 67 min: Keane is booked a hack on Redknapp and Butt is immediately replaced by Paul Scholes. 65 min: Another neat move involving Yorke and Keane ends with Cole's deflected shot dropping inches over the bar with James back-pedalling furiously. 62 min: Yorke has to wait for a bouncing ball to stop before rifling in a shot that James saves well. 59 min: Giggs slips Heggem and wins a corner and when Liverpool clear, Keane's deflected shot goes agonisingly wide. 55 min: Owen teases two United defenders before squaring to Fowler whose right-foot shot flies inches wide. 53 min: A lovely dummy by Yorke almost releases Cole but the hard-pressed Liverpool defence clear again. 50 min: Beckham plays a dangerous ball in from the right but Giggs miskicks in front of goal. 48 min: Butt releases Cole through the middle but James rushes quickly from his area to clear the danger. 46 min: Liverpool start the second half expecting 45 minutes of United pressure in this hard-fought Cup tie. 45 min: Redknapp battles well to win the ball near the corner flag, feeds Patrik Berger whose quick shot is palmed away by Schmeichel for a corner and Ince wins the resulting header but it goes straight to the United keeper and Liverpool end the half on top. 43 min: With Liverpool on the defensive, Beckham hangs up a far post cross but this time James makes no mistake with the catch. 41 min: Giggs wins a corner on the left, James drops the flag kick but Liverpool scramble it clear again. 36 min: Fowler seizes on a loose ball 30 yards out on the left and almost surprises Schmeichel by curling a superb right-footer narrowly past the angle of post and bar. 34 min: Owen leads a rare Liverpool break down the right but his early cross-shot drifts harmlessly wide. 33 min: Giggs makes another break down the left and this time his cross finds Cole whose volley at the far post is blocked for a corner. 31 min: A flurry of United pressure ends with Giggs sprinting clear down the left but his cross is over-hit with Andy Cole and Yorke waiting in the middle. 27 min: Butt himself becomes the second player cautioned for a late challenge on Fowler. Redknapp takes the 30-yard free kick but fires it wide. 22 min: Dominic Matteo is the first player booked for tripping Nicky Butt. 21 min: A Dwight Yorke cross is palmed away by James only for Ryan Giggs to head back towards goal where Paul Ince clears off the line with United appealing the ball had crossed the line. 17 min: Heggem keeps the ball in on the right touchline and when Robbie Fowler switches the play to the left, Stig Bjornebye's through ball finds Fowler straying offside. 13 min: A Jamie Redknapp free kick is easy for Peter Schmeichel. 10 min: Beckham escapes down the right but his pull-back from the bye-line is blocked and Liverpool clear again. 7 min: A Beckham free kick flies just over the head of incoming Jaap Stam and James comes out to make a grateful catch. 3 min: GOAL - OWEN.
