Stam Looks The Part
United fans will have been reassured last night that the £10 million Alex
Ferguson has invested in Jaap Stam looks to be money well spent. Against an
admittedly cautious Belgium side Stam looked a very high class defender
throughout. The game finished goalless, although Stam came as close to
anyone in to the breaking deadlock, firing in a bullet of a shot which , had
it not been straight at the keeper would surely have got him on the
scoresheet.

SOLSKJAER WANTS TO STAY AT UNITED
Norway star Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has quashed speculation about his future by
insisting he wants to remain with Manchester United for the rest of his
career.
Solskjaer had an injury-spoiled second season at Old Trafford and earlier
this week reports linked him with a move to Everton.
Under-fire Goodison Park boss Howard Kendell was reported to have had
Solskjaer watched in Norway's opening World Cup match against Morocco in
Montpellier on Wednesday.
But the 25-year-old striker, signed by Alex Ferguson from Molde for
£1.5million two years ago, wants to remain with the Red Devils and recapture
the form of his first campaign which he finished as the club's top scorer.
Solskjaer, currently preparing for Norway's second match against Scotland in
Nantes on Tuesday, said: ``I have not heard of Everton's interest and am
concentrating 100% on doing my job for Norway.
``But when I have finished in France I will go back to Manchester United. I
have six years left of my contract. I think I will finish my career at
United.
``Maybe it is because of the season I have had that people are linking me
with other clubs. But I am just looking forward to next season with United
and am 100% sure I will do better than last term.
``I have had a frustrating time with injuries but that is something you must
cope with, part of the learning experience. I hope I can recapture the form
of my first season with United.''
Solskjaer had to be substituted at half-time with an ankle injury suffered
against Morocco in the 2-2 draw but is confident he will be fit to face
Craig Brown's side.

Beckham Axed
David Beckham has been sensationally left out of England's starting line-up
for Monday's opening game against Tunisia in Marseilles.
The Sun's Brian Woolnough speaking on Sky Sports from the team's training
camp in La Baule revealed that Darren Anderton has got the nod over Beckham
in the wing-back position.
Beckham is said to be 'devastated' at being left out having starred in all
of the qualifying games.
Meanwhile, there is some good news for one Manchester United player as it is
reported that Teddy Sheringham will start ahead of Michael Owen.
