MANCHESTER UNITED DAILY NEWS Tuesday 28th Sept 1999:

Barry Comment:
Running on the site as of today Massimo Taibi Page
Just go to http://www.red11.org/taibi
For other players just add their names instead of Taibi

Uniteds unbeaten runs currently stand at:
29 games League
44 games League and Cup
38 games domestic League and Cup

Message from Paul Hinson:
The 40-game record Nottingham Forest hold is 40 games in domestic League
and Cup. United need to remain unbeaten against Southampton/Chelsea/Watford
and whoever we play in the Worthington Cup 3rd Round to beat it.
The League only record is 42 games, against by Forest, and we would need to
avoid defeat up to around January 15 2000 to manage that!

Subject: Graz - Austrian treat by Barney at Red News Hope you don't mind me putting together some thoughts on a brilliant trip to Graz last week - report delayed for the recovery time needed since. I always enjoy the trips to the unknown, especially when the opposition is a relatively small club - it means you don't get the usual trouble at the turnstiles with incompetent authorities that we always seem to have at the big trips, and the places (Kosice, Lodz) turn out to be stunning towns. Graz was perhaps the best Euro away I've ever been on - the place was stunning, no new buildings and set in hillsides where you could get a cable car to the top of a mountain and look at the historic town and countryside for miles and miles. The locals were very friendly, plus a number of great bars that refused to close also helped. The usual pre-match activites happened but it's more the game that I want to mention. Red News is fortunate to have a contributor - Howard - who was one of the Stretford Enders of the 60s who penned a few of the songs of that time that are still, but depressinly less frequently today, sung. With my current moan (I think Linda's got me sussed!) about Old Trafford's atmosphere this season my questions about what it will take to get OT at least resembling its former self saw him respond - "It needs the youngsters to step up and take the baton - not to wait for someone else but to start the songs themselves". It was a fairly jolly Utd crowd that entered the quite nice Arnie stadium and maybe the fact that there was enough space in the small Utd section so that we could all stand together (without being told to sit) that one of the best atmospheres I can remember in a long time commenced. The group of 30 that I was with didn't stop for the whole 90 minutes, which encouraged all the others to join in - and again perhaps the small section allowed for some oldies to come out, alongside the Jip Jaap Stam's. I was particularly buzzing when "It's a grand old team to play for" and especially "Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da, Man United, European Champions" got going for about a full 20 minutes, including all the 68 verses. This is the way it should be - the Utd end didn't stop, we were with people we knew so we could gee each other up and it made all of us feel that there is some hope - we even thought that Ob'la-di might even catch on again during this season. We ended the night in various bars with a few listees (including a couple who had driven from Norway!) and each bar you could hear Utd voices carrying on from the earlier game. OUR SALFORD LASS in a previous posting said something along the lines that her home (Old Trafford) was changing. For the 23 years that I have been fortunate enough to visit Old Trafford I have always felt a tingling and buzz on entering the ground, of reaching my seat and taking it all in. But I have to admit I am beginning to feel very depressed with the lack of noise and passion on the terraces for many games. We all know that at an away game it is different - such that people are beginning to look forward to those more). If it can be done with 500 in Graz then surely 50,000 at OId Trafford isn't too much to ask. But where as in Graz I got a few songs going and joined in, I sat back and didn't try to do anything out of the ordinary for the Southampton game. Can't even properly explain why. I sat next to Mark Roberts who was trying to get things going - and as Howard says we need a 100 or so like him at each game to get us all going because it seems it's not as if we don't want to, otherwise the decline at home games that surely we are all beginning to notice will be irreversible. But can't finish on a downer - one of many highlights of a superb trip has to be a bar full of very, er, happy Reds dancing and singing to What a friend we have in Jesus whilst a Scottish bag pipe player played the tune. This was at 7am! All the best, Barney

Subject: Beckham faces rap for bad behaviour FA TO QUESTION BECKHAM OVER CONDUCT David Beckham will be asked to attend an informal meeting with the Football Association to discuss his behaviour - but he does not face any disciplinary action. The FA are concerned by some of the unsavoury incidents the Manchester United and England star has been involved in and he has already collected five bookings this season. Lancaster Gate chiefs appreciate the extra pressures Beckham is under and he is regularly taunted by opposition fans during matches. The 24-year-old snapped earlier this season at Old Trafford and aimed a V-sign at Leeds fans who provoked him in the Premiership clash. No other player suffers the same provocation but the FA will remind him of what is expected of him. ------------------------ BBC Monday, September 27, 1999 Published at 11:03 GMT 12:03 UK Beckham faces rap for bad behaviour David Beckham: Subject to unusual levels of taunting David Beckham is to be called in front of the Football Association to discuss his behaviour on the field - although he will not face any disciplinary proceedings. The FA is reportedly worried about the number of incidents in which the 24-year-old midfielder has been involved. He has received five bookings already in the 1999-2000 season. World Cup red card FA chiefs appreciate that Beckham is especially subject to serious taunting by opposition fans and that has been taken into account. But he is an extremely high profile player and the FA will remind him of what is expected of him on the field. Beckham gets roughed up by Sturm Graz The Manchester United player's temperament has been the focus of much attention since his sending off in the the World Cup for kicking Argentina's Simeone following a foul. More recently, he stuck two fingers up at Leeds fans at Old Trafford after they made comments about his wife, the Spice Girl Victoria Adams. On that occasion no action was taken because it was felt he had suffered undue provocation. And last week, during Manchester's Champions League tie with Sturm Graz, he was lucky to escape censure after he kicked out at the Austrian team's Tomislav Kocijan, directly in front of the fourth official. He was later yellow-carded for an altercation with Roman Strafner, during which he threatened to throw the ball in the Sturm player's face.

He has >> acted like a man, taken it on the chin, stood up to be >> counted and blamed his studs for the heinous error that >> gifted Southampton a goal at Old Trafford on Saturday. >> >> "I slipped as I went to pick the ball up," Taibi told >> ClubCall, revealing that he made a cry for help which >> was astonishingly ignored by the Old Trafford hierarchy. >> "During the week I was asking for longer studs because >> the ones I have are too short," he pleaded, to no avail. >> "There's nothing I can do now. I've made the mistake and >> now I'm just trying to forget it." >> >> That's all very well for Taibi, but not so good for his studs. >> Speaking today from a peg in the Old Trafford boot room, the 16 >> screw-ins were outraged at Taibi's accusations. "How he can say this >> after all we've been through," said one. "Yes," agreed another almost >> exactly the same in appearance as the first. "He's as bad as those >> American golfers," chimed in a third with a bit of turf stuck on it.
