SIR Alex Ferguson! Congrats from Manchester United Support All Over the World!"

Subject: MU Book - Always in the running >> After seeing a few posts about MU books I thought I'd tell you about an >> excellent book I read recently. It was written by Jim White (used to be on >> BBC2's Late Review) and call "Always in the running". Jim is a thirty > >Ironic you should mention this one as I'm currently reading it! It's a >good read, entertainingly written and well researched - usually through >him having spent ages asking ridiculous questions to those involved! Make >syou wish you were him, but there you go. Highly recommended from me as >well! I mentioned this book in passing on the list a while back. Just as everyone has been saying, it's very good, and a worthwhile read. It was written after many personal interviews, so the writer has lots of anecdotes to relate. If, like me, you like this sort of thing, you'll enjoy the book. It especially helped bring to life the men whom I've never seen but only heard of, like Buchan and Whiteside, and the ones mentioned only occasionally in passing, like Gordon Hill. I remember it most for its descriptions -- of Willie Morgan's hair, of Ryan Giggs' toes, of Mark Hughes' thighs.... the writer really can paint mental pictures! (Imagine, I read it at the beginning of the year and can still visualise Giggsy's long finger-like toes....) Michelle

Subject: EDWARDS - UNITED NOT READY TO CONQUER WORLD Manchester United claim they can only take part in next year's World Team Championship with the help of the game's governing bodies. The Treble-winners have been invited to compete in the inaugural competition, which is the brainchild of FIFA president Sepp Blatter, in Brazil in January. However the tournament, which will be held between January 3 and 14, clashes with the FA Cup third round, Worthington Cup semi-finals and two Premiership matches. United chairman and chief executive Martin Edwards claims the Football Association, Premier League and Football League would have to help re-arrange fixtures if they were to take part. "It's too early to say yet if we will be able to take part," said Edwards. "We are looking at it and discussions are on going. "We will have another meeting with the FA, Premier League and Government later this week. "We have got the outline fixtures and fixture dates, although we don't know exactly where we're playing. "The FA Cup third round, Worthington Cup semi-finals and two Premiership games will be affected. "At the moment, though, something will have to give somewhere and we need some help from somewhere."
SIR Alex Ferguson! Congrats from Manchester United Support All Over the World!"

Subject: Arsenal to play in Charity Shield FOOTBALL: IT'S SWEET CHARITY ARSENE WENGER last night assured fans that Arsenal will play Manchester United's Treble heroes in the Charity Shield. Arsenal have denied suggestions that they are reluctant to play in the traditional curtain-raiser at Wembley on Sunday, August 1. The club issued a statement last night which said: "Arsene Wenger has not considered pulling Arsenal out of the Charity Shield, nor has the club been placed under any pressure from the FA and the Charities' Commission. "The Charity Shield is a traditional match and indeed Arsenal FC are delighted to be participating. We are the holders of the trophy and will endeavour to retain it on August 1."
SIR Alex Ferguson! Congrats from Manchester United Support All Over the World!"

Subject: TV deals The following item from the Guardian's Fiver column shows the potential that exists in clubs making private TV deals. Barca are supposed to be getting 250 million pounds for the deal they just made. That sort of money would buy us 20 Yorkies, 24 Jaaps or 114 Alan Shearers. > Barcelona have signed a five-year agreement with satellite company Via Digital for the rights to cover all the club's matches from 2003. The agreement will cover matches in the Spanish League, Cup and Champions League. Barcelona are believed to be receiving over 250m for the contract. > _________ Terry Saudi
