Subject: Peter Schmeichel Denmark Short Personal Report Copenhagen Sat 4th Sept Hi Worldwide REDS this is Barry just in from Parken Copenhagen I saw Peter play an excellent game in which Denmark beat Switzerland 2-1 to keep their chance of the Euro Championships if they can do something with Italy next Wednesday. It was a good/(sad?) feeling to see BIG Pete for the first time since Barcelona. Playing in a yellow/black jersey I can tell you that he is 100% bang in form and kept Denmark in the match with a great save in the 1st half which ended 0-0. Switzerland were not good except for Chappi but Denmark made hard work of them going 1-0 up in 55m only to let them back in the match 1-1 with 15mins left! Peter had no chance with the goal, close in as Denmark defended badly. Peter was in "REAL SHOUTING FORM" continuously screaming at his players during the whole match, controlling things from his box. Thankfully 5 mins after 1-1 Denmark scored again and won the match. Parken was sold out Pete Schmeichel was probably MOM due to his commanding influence on the game. His goal kicks and general kicking was fantastic, most clearances landing on the edge of the opposing pen area! We have lost a great un' as we all know, he can never be replaced, but he can be remembered in the glory of a future Manchester United just like past players Best Law Charlton Cantona. Life goes on, good tho' to be able to see a previous star still playing for his country. Barry in the RED memory of Peter Schmeichel "probably" the best goalkeeper in the world"

Subject: KEEGAN'S PLEDGE ON BECKHAM FITNESS Kevin Keegan has vowed not to risk the wrath of another Premiership manager by gambling on David Beckham's fitness in England's make-or-break clash in Poland this week. Keegan's satisfaction with England's 6-0 win against Luxembourg was tempered by the news that Beckham is battling to be fit for the Warsaw game which should decide England's Euro 2000 fate, with victory ensuring a play-off place, defeat leading to elimination and a draw leaving Keegan depending on Sweden beating Poland next month in their final qualifying game. Jamie Redknapp has already been ruled out of the squad after failing a fitness test on an Achilles injury, and Beckham is undergoing treatment on a hamstring problem along with Tony Adams, who has a dead leg, and Kieron Dyer, who was substituted at half-time at Wembley due to a knock or cramp. Keegan believes that Adams' dead leg "probably won't stop him playing - two might but one won't", although many other players might be ruled out by the same injury, while Dyer remains touch and go. The England boss, who will have Paul Scholes back from suspension on Wednesday, is still positive. "All three of them have received treatment and we are hopeful about their progress. David is very bullish about his own fitness," Keegan said. But Keegan - who was involved in a row with Tottenham boss George Graham over Darren Anderton's fitness - vowed: "I will not play David Beckham if there's any risk to David Beckham. "It's not about Manchester United and Alex Ferguson, it's about David Beckham. Look at Michael Owen last time before the home match against Poland, I sent him straight back and we've done it with everybody. "I won't take any risk. I don't think I need to. If David Beckham is not 100% then there's other players in the squad who I think would do the job better, bearing in mind that they will be 100%. "He is a fantastic player and has so many strings to his bow but we have proved again that although David is one of them, we've got quite a lot of leaders and strong focal points in the side."

Subject: Wallwork Ban Suspended (TeamTalk) Football-Judge suspends ban on Manchester United player BRUSSELS, Sept 3 - A Brussels judge on Friday temporarily suspended the life ban on Manchester United's Ronnie Wallwork pending a final ruling by the Belgian Football Union's appeals body, Belgian media reported. Wallwork, an outstanding 21-year-old prospect, was banned for attacking referee Amand Ancion while on loan to Belgian second division club Antwerp. The incident came after pre-season favourites Antwerp lost a play-off on May 23, ending their hopes of promotion to the first division. The interim judgment will allow Wallwork to resume playing at least until a decision from the appeals body, which is due on September 17. The ban, condemned by United manager Alex Ferguson as draconian, would apply in all countries affiliated to FIFA. United team mate Danny Higginbotham received a one-season ban for insulting Ancion in the same match. United and Antwerp, one of Belgium's oldest and most successful clubs, signed a cooperation deal last November to swap loan players on a regular basis.

Subject: KEANE EYES POUNDS 12M DEAL And that rules out United ROY KEANE wants a pounds 12million three-year deal from his next club as the bidding hots up for the Manchester United skipper. Keane is looking for a contract of around pounds 80,000-a-week, terms that are now being openly discussed at the highest level by Italian giants Juventus, Inter Milan and Lazio. The Republic of Ireland star turned down United's latest and seemingly final offer of around pounds 32,000-a-week for five seasons. The lucrative package to stay at Old Trafford is worth around pounds 8m for Keane, but he is looking forward almost 50 per cent more on a far shorter deal. The Keane camp's reasoning is that any club wanting him would pay the pounds 12m package directly to him as there is no transfer fee because he will be a free agent next summer. Keane, 28, would also have the option of coming back to England after three seasons abroad and still picking up a good move to the Premiership. With the money he wants out of his next deal, Keane could probably buy a club never mind sign for one in the summer of 2003. Keane claims that he is not making his next decision on money alone, but clearly if he moves to Italy then cash will be a major factor. His advisers are not officially allowed to speak to a foreign club until January 1, but the jostling for position has already begun and most of the top players in Serie A are in. The rivalry between them is intense and Spanish giants Real Madrid claimed last night that they had tried to join the negotiations, but had been informed that Juventus already had an agreement with Keane. Real's negotiator Rafael Benitez said: "United informed us that Juventus have already made an irresistible offer to Keane of pounds 2.5m a year for five years." While United deny such a deal exists, the figures almost ring true. That package would be pounds 12.5m, which is the top line Keane wants. It now seems certain United will kick off their Champions League campaign without Keane. Manager Sir Alex Ferguson is resigned to being without his influential midfielder following a hamstring injury that forced Keane to pull out of the Republic of Ireland squad for their European Championship qualifiers against Croatia and Malta. Ferguson believes Keane's injury is a "three-week job" and has ruled him out of next Saturday's Premiership clash with Liverpool at Anfield. Irish team-mate Denis Irwin is also likely to miss the Liverpool game with a recurrence of an Achilles tendon injury.

In all European competitions Bill Foulkes remains top with 52 games between 1956 and 1969. Next comes Bobby Charlton and Denis Irwin with 45 appearances. In European Cup/Champions League only, Peter Schmeichel now has the record with 36 appearances, followed by Foulkes with 35, and Gary Neville and Irwin come next with 34. ====================================================================== Date: Tuesday, August 17, 1999 Time: 3:51 PM EST Submitted by: Barrie Monks Email address: monksfam@centuryinter.net Subject: Ask the StatMan visitor_country: USA visitor_age: 48 question: Who was the United player that scored against the same keeper in three different games when both players where playing for different teams each times.
