Bill Daily Comment:
Let's not have a repeat of last week when we took the foot off
the pedal and let Blackburn back into the match. If we get
ahead in this match, let's bury them! Most important thing to
remember today is that Wednesday's match is a big one! Let's
hope there are no injuries today so we can take on Barcelona at
full strength.

Subject: EURO BOOST FOR UNITED DUO

Teddy Sheringham and Ronny Johnsen could
return for Manchester United's Champions'
League trip to Barcelona next week.
The pair are recovering well from injury
and manager Alex Ferguson says they have a
chance of being fit for Wednesday's Group
D match in the Nou Camp.

Sheringham, who has only started two games
for United this season, is back in full
training after he was sidelined by knee
ligament trouble. Johnsen's return would
be a big surprise after Ferguson claimed
just 10 days ago that he would be out for
up to two months because of an ankle
injury.

Ryan Giggs, who fractured a bone in his
foot, is doing some jogging in training
but Ferguson believes he will not be ready
for Barcelona.

"Teddy Sheringham is actually in full
training, while Ronny Johnsen is doing a
little bit of training," he said.
"They could travel to Spain if they come
through the next couple of days' work.
They will train tomorrow and Sunday and
then we'll have a look a them."
Former Barcelona winger Jordi Cruyff,
though, is highly unlikely to recover from
his pulled hamstring in time to face his
former club.

Apart from these four players, Ferguson
has everyone else available for the match
against Sheffield Wednesday at
Hillsborough.

Paul Scholes was forced to pull out of
England's friendly against the Czech
Republic on Wednesday because of a
hamstring injury, but Ferguson reported he
was fit again.

"We notified England and obviously he
never trained there and he came back and
had treatment here on Wednesday and
yesterday," said Ferguson. "He did some
training this morning and he's looking
okay. So apart from Johnsen, Giggs,
Sheringham and Cruyff we have everyone
fit."

Subject: Hoddle offers Cole 'olive branch' ««

Glenn Hoddle has offered Manchester United striker Andy Cole
the chance to resurrect his England career despite the United
striker's scathing broadside at his recent omission from the
national squad.

Hoddle is desperate to quell the war of words after the two
became involved in a public slanging match.
Cole jeopardised his international future with an attack on
Hoddle, allegedly branding the England coach a 'coward'.
But Hoddle now hopes to reconcile with Cole and form a peace
pact in the hope that the two can work together in the future.
Hoddle said: "The door is not shut on anybody unless they tell
me they don't want to play for their country. That I cannot
accept."

Reports claim Cole was even contemplating his future on the
international stage after being left 'hurt and disappointed' by
Hoddle's alleged public condemnation of his ability.
But Hoddle feels he is the victim of a media-vendetta and that
Cole was badly advised to publicly counter his thoughts.

Subject: UNITED MUST SELL TO BUY

Manchester United chief Martin Edwards has revealed that
manager Alex Ferguson will have to sell before he can bring
in any new players.

Speaking at a stormy annual meeting at Old Trafford he
said: "We have to be prudent - if someone else comes in,
someone will have to go out." But he added that he would
make cash available in United's unstoppable pursuit of glory.

He said: "We're quite happy with the current squad and I
don't see any immediate purchases but there is no freeze. If
the right player comes on the market and the manager
wanted him then we would be in a position to do something
about it. But if someone came in, someone would have to go
out."

He also told the packed meeting that the club's board are still
backing the BSkyB bid for the club despite being urged to
re-consider by hundreds of soccer fans.

Shareholding fans called for Edwards to resign and urged
the board to reconsider its backing for the takeover plans by
the media group, which is 40 per cent owned by Rupert
Murdoch.

Although the offer has now lapsed and the bid is being
looked into by the Monopolies and Mergers Commission,
Edwards said he would back any similar bid from BSkyB.
"Today's meeting has not changed my mind.'' he said.

Subject: BUTT READY TO STAKE HIS CLAIM

Manchester United midfielder Nicky Butt hopes his season is
finally underway after impressing in England's 2-0 defeat of the
Czech Republic on Wednesday. Butt is optimistic after a
catalogue of suspensions and injuries that he can force his way
into the United side at Sheffield Wednesday.

"I haven't been justifying myself at United recently but
hopefully this will help me turn things round and start playing
the way I can," said Butt. "My main priority is to get into the
starting line-up as quickly as possible. Getting into the
England side came as a bit of a shock but it was a nice one."
Butt could go straight into the side as an automatic replacement
for Paul Scholes, who withdrew from the England squad with a
hamstring strain. But manager Alex Ferguson will wait for all
his internationals to return from duty before naming his side.

Ryan Giggs, Teddy Sheringham, Ronny Johnsen, Ole Gunnar
Solskjaer, David May and Jordi Cruyff have all been under
treatment this week, while those not called up for
internationals were given time off. Wednesday's Italian
midfielder Benito Carbone is Danny Wilson's only outfield
casualty with the ankle injury he picked up at Coventry a month
ago.
