Foe in the bag!
Continuing with the transfer theme, and Manchester United have agreed terms
with Cameroon international midfielder Marc-Vivien Foe and his move to Old
Trafford should go through within the next few days.
Foe currently plays for French champion's F.C Lens and Alex Ferguson was
given permission to talk to the versatile international who can operate in
either defender or midfield.
United have yet to agree a price with Lens and have started the bidding at
£2.5 million.
Manchester United today revealed that the possible transfer of Marc Vivien
Foe from French champions Lens to Old Trafford was still "on-going".
Manager Alex Ferguson sees the Cameroon international midfielder as an ideal
addition to his squad as he seeks to reclaim the Premiership title from
Arsenal and launch another assault on the European Champions' League. Club
secretary Ken Ramsden said: "We haven't confirmed a deal with his club yet
so there is no progress there. It is still on-going." Lens players and
officials are currently enjoying a post-season break in Martinique.

Fergies transfer mission! ««
Fergie: On a mission
Alex Ferguson has stepped up his mission to complete the bulk of his
transfer activity before the World Cup. The Reds boss is reported to have
flown out of Heathrow airport on Tuesday night and is understood to be
entering negotiations with a 'world class' player.
In typical fashion Ferguson is keeping his transfer plans a closely guarded
secret but there is a strong possibility that Fergie is on the trail of
one, or possibly both of the crack Argentinian attacking pair Gabriel
Batistuta and Ariel Ortega.
Despite reports that Valencia officials are desperate to hold on to Ortega,
the player is likely to be leaving during the summer.
The 24 year old is the emerging talent in world football and he has
certainly had is bust up's with the Spanish club over the past season.
Talk of a £1 million loan deal to Old Trafford with a further £8 million to
pay is premature, but the Reds are still interested, as are an absolute
host of top European sides.
Ferguson is also hot on the trail of Gabriel Batistuta, the Fiorentina ace
has, according to Italian club officials, played his last game for the
club. As you'd expect for a world class striker, competition for his
signature will be fierce to say the least.
A.S Roma, and Real Madrid could be prepared to pay a kings ransom to get
Batistuta, and with so many big sides on the trail, Ferguson would have to
be at his persuasive best to get him at Old Trafford. There is also no
doubt that if United were to win the race for the 29 year old, then the
existing wage structure would have to be shattered.
We'll keep you informed.

Youth team guru leaves ««
The man who helped make United the power house of the Premiership will walk
away from Old Trafford this week.
Eric Harrison is retiring after a 17 year spell as youth team coach, during
which time he has produced players like Norman Whiteside, Mark Hughes, Ryan
Giggs, David Beckham, the Neville brothers, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt plus
the latest prospects Michael Clegg, John Curtis an Wes Brown.
Johnsen on the mend ««
Ronnie Johnsen is close to making a complete recovery. Johnsen recently
underwent a minor knee operation. The club was confident that he would only
be out for around three weeks, and so it proved judging by Johnsen's
ability to take part in a squash match yesterday!
The Norwegian international would be fully fit for the World Cup finals in
France.
A Manchester United is for life, not just for christmas.
